A photo of a packed mat tells you a lot about the day it was taken. It tells you very little about whether you can train there this Saturday.

That matters when you're looking for BJJ open mats in Mumbai. You might be visiting for work, adding a second room to your training week, or trying to find partners outside your usual circle. In each case, you need a current invitation, not proof that an academy once hosted a good session.

Westbay BJJ publishes open mats among its offerings. We also found a UFC GYM Malad event page, but its accessible booking page says the event is closed. These are different kinds of leads, and only one belongs on your list of academies to contact now.

Sources checked 31 October 2026. No place, fee or guest booking was confirmed directly.

The second row is here to save you a wasted enquiry about an old listing. It is not an upcoming recommendation.

Westbay BJJ: start with the academy, not an old address

Westbay's site lists BJJ fundamentals, no-gi grappling, competition sessions and open mats. That's a useful starting point for someone who specifically wants jiu-jitsu, rather than general MMA sparring.

Its current contact footer gives A/341, Laxmi Business Park, New Link Road, opposite SAB TV Road, Andheri West, and +91 8928038059 for calls or WhatsApp.

Some search and directory references still name Woodrow Building/Veera Desai Road. Get a fresh pin from the academy before travelling. An old listing can be accurate about the gym's existence and wrong about the door you need.

The accessible academy page doesn't supply a numerical guest price or an open-mat timetable. Ask whether visitors from another team can join, which session suits your experience, and what the full charge covers. If you need a loan gi, ask about availability and the separate rental cost.

Why the Malad event is not a weekly slot

The BookMyShow page describes a BJJ event and mentions 25 March, but it is marked closed. Search snippets gave conflicting date and price information, which is why we haven't carried those figures into a live training recommendation.

If you see a newer announcement, open the booking page itself. Check the full date, venue, participant category and current sale status. A spectator ticket, an old event price and a gym's monthly membership are not interchangeable with a mat fee.

An organiser may run another session later. A closed page cannot tell you when.

Choose the room for the rounds you want

Before comparing fees, explain your visit. “Blue belt, mostly gi, looking for relaxed rounds while I'm in Mumbai” gives the host more to work with than “open mat price?”

For competition preparation, name the format and rules you train under. For drilling, ask whether someone can work through a specific position with you. Neither request guarantees a partner, so let the host answer before paying.

Ask these questions together:

  • Is this session accepting visiting grapplers on my date?
  • Is it gi, no-gi, or a mixed session with partners available for both?
  • What is the total one-visit charge, including any rental or registration cost?
  • What are the exact branch pin and arrival time?
  • Who runs the session, and are there experience or age restrictions?

Get the travel question right too. Pick a confirmed session you can actually reach from where you're staying, rather than collecting academies across the city. Don't buy a longer pass until you know you can use it.

Make your visit easy to host

Bring clean training clothes and keep footwear off the mat. Tell partners your experience and ask about the room's submission and takedown rules before starting. Do not assume no-gi means every technique is allowed.

You can decline a round, ask for lighter work or stop. Your partner can do the same. Keep filming separate from training permission: being admitted to a session does not give you permission to record everyone in it.

If you haven't started BJJ yet, book a taught class. Use our gi and no-gi comparison to understand the kit, then browse Mumbai BJJ listings for places to ask. Directory inclusion alone doesn't establish visitor access.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I ask about BJJ open mats in Mumbai?

Westbay BJJ in Andheri West explicitly lists open mats on its academy website. Contact it for the current session, guest approval and price; the website alone doesn't establish a bookable visitor place.

Is the UFC GYM Malad open mat currently bookable?

The specific BookMyShow page checked for this guide says Event Closed. Don't use it as an upcoming session or assume it repeats weekly. Look for a new dated announcement from the organiser.

How much does a Mumbai BJJ drop-in cost?

We did not establish a current numerical guest open-mat fee from the checked academy page. Ask for a one-visit quote and clarify rental, registration and cancellation terms before paying.

Can beginners attend an open mat?

Ask the host about your actual experience. An existing beginner student may be accommodated differently from someone who has never grappled. For a first lesson, request coaching rather than assuming open mat includes instruction.
