You've got a free Saturday morning and want a few rounds. The listing says “open mat”, so you pack your no-gi kit.

One question is still missing: open mat for which sport?

In Bengaluru, Kaizen MMA has a provider listing that welcomes outside martial artists on Saturday mornings. It describes a mixed martial-arts practice session, not a room reserved exclusively for BJJ. That could work well for you, provided the host confirms grappling partners and the format you want.

We also checked Flamingo Jiu-Jitsu in HSR Layout. Its public timetable gives weekend adult classes, which are a different route into training. Here's how to choose without confusing a class, a community event and an open mat.

Checked 31 October 2026. Bengaluru and Bangalore refer to the same city here. Times are IST; attendance has not been booked.

Bengaluru: what is actually advertised?

Flamingo Jiu-Jitsu, HSR LayoutWeekend adult classes listed at 10–11:30 AMTaught-class alternative, not a confirmed public open mat; guest permission and fee need enquiry

There isn't a verified, bookable guest fee in this table. A search headline showing a starting price isn't enough when the accessible session details don't substantiate the charge.

Kaizen MMA: guests are mentioned; BJJ-only rounds aren't

The provider listing describes informal Saturday-morning practice and says members and visitors from other academies can join. It also says the session spans martial arts and is supervised by coaches.

Treat that as an advertised invitation to enquire, not a reservation. Ask: “Will there be BJJ or submission-grappling rounds on this date, and are they gi or no-gi?” A striking partner and a grappling partner solve different problems.

Use Kaizen's official contact details: +91 8789297183. Its current website footer lists 188, 8th A Cross Road, Yellukunte 2nd Cross, ITI Layout. Get the current pin rather than relying on older HSR/Agara references.

The precise start time and visitor total still need confirmation. Don't substitute the academy's general opening hours or monthly training price for either.

Flamingo: a weekend class is a useful alternative

If your aim is simply to get some jiu-jitsu in while you're in town, you may not need an open mat at all.

Flamingo's timetable lists adult sessions on Saturday and Sunday at 10–11:30 AM. Its address is 2630, Fourth Floor, 27th Main Road, First Sector, HSR Layout, and the published number is 9986075444.

Ask whether it accepts a visiting student in the appropriate adult class, how much the visit costs and whether rolling is included. We haven't established an independent guest open-mat slot there.

The website also carries community-event artwork. A dated invitation is evidence for that event, not a recurring Sunday arrangement. Check a new announcement before treating it as one.

Decide what a good Saturday would look like

A useful visit might be three controlled rounds, a taught class with new partners, or time to work on a position. Decide which you want before choosing the cheapest-looking listing.

If you are new, ask for a beginner-suitable taught class. If you already train, tell the host your belt or experience, usual format and home academy. If you're preparing for competition, explain the ruleset and ask whether suitable rounds are available; don't assume every participant wants competition intensity.

Travelling light? Confirm whether a no-gi session is available before leaving your gi behind. Travelling with a gi? Check uniform requirements instead of assuming every academy accepts every colour or patch.

A booking message that gets a useful answer

Hi, I'm visiting Bengaluru on [date] and train [gi/no-gi] at [academy], with [experience]. Can I join your Saturday session? I'm looking for grappling rounds. Please send the start time, current pin, total guest price and any kit or booking requirements.

Don't send money just because a reply includes a payment link. First make sure the quote names the actual session and what happens if it is cancelled. No reply means you still need another plan.

Once you arrive, introduce yourself to the coach, agree rules with partners and ask before recording. Being welcome as a visitor doesn't mean you have to accept every round offered.

Browse Bengaluru BJJ academies if neither option fits your location. Use those listings as contacts, not proof of an open-mat timetable.

Frequently asked questions

Can non-members join Kaizen MMA's open mat?

Its mytribe listing explicitly welcomes non-members from other academies. Confirm the current date, start time, BJJ participation and fee with the academy before travelling.

Is Kaizen's Saturday session exclusively BJJ?

The listing describes practice across martial arts. It does not establish a BJJ-only session or guaranteed gi and no-gi partners. Tell the host which rounds you want.

Does Flamingo have a confirmed guest open mat?

We found weekend adult classes, but did not establish a current standalone guest open mat. Ask about a visitor class instead; a past community event is not a weekly timetable.

What is the Bengaluru guest mat fee?

A current payable BJJ guest fee was not established from the accessible session details checked. Get a written quote for the exact visit, including any kit rental or extra charges.
