Sunday morning. Two hours on the mat. No commute after work, no rushing through dinner to make a class.

That's the appeal of the open mat on Spirals BJJ's Hyderabad timetable. The academy publishes a Sunday gi/no-gi session from 10 AM to noon. It also describes the session as sparring only, which is the detail to notice if you're still looking for your first lesson.

The timetable answers when and what. It doesn't settle whether an outside visitor can join or what they pay. Here's how to use it without turning a published slot into a promise the academy hasn't made.

Official website and its public timetable bundle checked 31 October 2026. All times are IST. No guest place has been booked.

Contact Spirals before building your Sunday around it

The academy lists +91 77027 89123 and spiralshyd@gmail.com. Use the gym-location link on its website and request a current pin with your booking. The site provides a separate parking link labelled for members; don't assume a guest booking includes that access.

Explain whether you're a visiting student, a local student from another academy, or someone who has never trained. Those are different requests.

The important reply isn't just “yes, Sunday”. You want approval for you, on a particular date, for a known price and format. Ask who to check in with when you arrive.

We haven't established a guest fee. Leaving that figure unknown is more useful than borrowing a monthly membership rate or treating an introductory offer as an unlimited visitor pass.

Open mat or beginner class?

The same timetable lists beginner classes on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 7–8:30 AM. That gives a new student a specific alternative to ask about.

A sparring-only session assumes a different kind of participation from a lesson. If you don't yet understand tapping, basic positions or how to move with a partner, say so. Ask the academy which taught class to book and what equipment it expects you to bring.

If you already train but feel unsure about visiting, name your experience plainly. “Six months of no-gi, still learning” is enough. You don't need to dress it up as a competition résumé to ask for suitable partners.

You can also ask to observe before joining, subject to the academy's permission. Watching is a request too; it isn't automatic access to the room.

Make the rounds worth the trip

Choose one thing you'd like to practise. It might be getting out of a familiar bad position or learning how a different partner responds to your usual guard. Ask whether someone wants to work on that with you; open mat doesn't make every person available for your plan.

Before each round, agree the rules and pace. Don't introduce a submission simply because you've seen it in an online no-gi match. Competition rules vary, and the host may use stricter room rules.

Use clean kit, keep footwear off the training surface and respect a partner who declines. Stop immediately at a tap. Ask before filming, and don't turn another person's practice into an unsolicited highlight clip.

Send a message with the missing details

Hi, I train [gi/no-gi] at [academy] and have [experience]. May I attend the Sunday open mat on [date]? Please confirm guest access, total fee, current location, kit rules and any advance registration. Are there suitable partners for my level?

If it doesn't fit, ask about a visitor place in a taught class instead. For other contacts, browse Hyderabad BJJ listings. A listed academy isn't necessarily accepting open-mat guests.

Leave with a clearer idea of what to work on next week. The session doesn't need to become a test of whether you can beat a stranger.

Frequently asked questions

When is Spirals BJJ's Hyderabad open mat?

The published timetable lists Sunday, 10 AM–12 PM, for gi/no-gi open mat. Confirm your actual date directly; a standing timetable doesn't establish holiday changes or visitor availability.

Can I turn up as a non-member?

We did not find an explicit guest-admission policy on the checked academy page. Ask for approval before travelling, even though the timetable is public.

How much does the Hyderabad open mat cost?

No numerical guest fee was established from the checked source. Ask for a one-session total and any rental or registration charges. Unknown does not mean free.

Should a complete beginner book Sunday open mat?

Spirals labels that session sparring only. A complete beginner should ask about a taught introductory class; the site separately lists beginner morning sessions on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
