Short answer: I prefer The Good Bug's Pro Digestive Protein over SuperYou's fermented yeast protein. It tastes better, it mixes well and, going by my workout logs and how I look, I've done better on it. SuperYou mixed well too, but I found it one of the worst-tasting proteins I've had.
Updated 22 Oct 2026: I'm still using The Good Bug and it's working fine for me. I won't go back to whey until the prices make sense again.
This is one person's experience, not a lab test. Both are products I used myself, and there are no affiliate links here.
Here's how I got from whey to yeast protein to a yeast and pea blend, and what the labels actually say.
Why I moved away from whey
Before any of this, I was on MuscleBlaze Biozyme Whey Isolate. I still rate it as one of the best proteins I've used. I could feel the difference in my performance and in muscle density.
So why switch?
Price. It kept going up, again and again. At some point I started looking for something cheaper that could do a similar job.
That's how I ended up trying yeast protein for the first time.
My experience with SuperYou yeast protein
I started SuperYou around April 2026, roughly six months ago. I mostly had the chocolate flavour and also tried cold coffee. I stayed on it for about two months, because I wanted to give it a proper run before judging it.
Taste
Honestly, it's one of the worst-tasting proteins I've had. Drinking it became a chore. When you dread your shake every day, that matters, because protein only helps if you actually take it.
Mixability
This part was good. It mixed easily and I didn't have a problem with lumps.
How it felt in my stomach
SuperYou's product page says the protein "keeps you feeling light". My experience was the opposite. I felt heavier after taking it, not lighter.
Results
I couldn't feel any edge from it. If anything, I came out of those two months feeling worse, not better. I also felt I wasn't putting on muscle as fast as I had been.
I track my workouts on the Hevy app, and my logs from that period show a difference in performance and muscle gain compared with when I was on whey.
My take on "yeast protein is as good as whey"
SuperYou's FAQ says fermented yeast protein "is as effective as whey". I don't buy it. In my opinion, whey still gives you an edge. That's my experience and my view, not a study result.
My experience with The Good Bug protein
I saw an ad for The Good Bug's protein and decided to try it for two reasons. It was cheaper, and it was different. It isn't a plain yeast protein; it's a blend.
I started it in August 2026, after I got back from Ireland, and I'm still on it.
I'd call it probably the best plant protein I've had.
Taste and sweetness
It tastes great. There's only one flavour (chocolate), and it's a good one. My one complaint is that it's a bit too sweet. I'd like The Good Bug to reduce the sweetness.
Texture and mixability
It's thicker than most proteins I've used. Mixability is very good, so the thickness doesn't come from clumps; it's just a denser shake.
Digestion
It's easy to digest and my stomach has stayed normal on it.
One tip from my own experience: avoid taking it at night. When I did, I noticed bloating the next morning.
Results
I can feel results with this one. Muscle growth, energy, and no stomach trouble. If I had to pick between SuperYou and The Good Bug based on muscle gain and how I look, I'd pick The Good Bug.
Why might The Good Bug have worked better for me?
My guess was that it's the blend. I thought the second protein was rice protein (or "rice bran").
I checked the label, and I was wrong about the rice. The Good Bug's Pro Digestive Protein label lists fermented yeast protein isolate (49.98%) and pea protein isolate (32.07%). The product page calls it yellow pea protein isolate. There's no rice protein in the ingredient list. It also lists added L-leucine.
So the blend is yeast plus pea, not yeast plus rice.
Is the pea protein the reason it worked better for me? I can't prove that. The two products also differ in protein per serving, leucine, sweetener, texture and how much I enjoyed drinking them. Any of those could matter, and I only have my own logs to go on.

What the labels say
SuperYou PRO Fermented Yeast Protein
From SuperYou's chocolate product page and its label images:
- Ingredients (chocolate): fermented yeast protein isolate, cocoa powder, natural flavours, chicory root fibre, monk fruit powder, sunflower lecithin (INS 322(ii)), digestive enzymes (bromelain and papain), and the probiotic Bacillus coagulans (1 billion CFU per serve). The yeast is listed as inactive dried yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae).
- Per 36 g serving: 24.12 g protein, 4.04 g carbohydrates, 1.27 g fat, 3.18 g dietary fibre, 0.43 g total sugar, 0 g added sugar, 124 kcal.
- Amino acids per serving: 10.85 g EAAs and 4.89 g BCAAs.
- Servings: 28 per 1 kg jar.
- The page says SuperYou is moving to new packaging and that it's "same fermented yeast protein" in either pack. The coffee flavour I tried is Cold Coffee Fermented Yeast Protein, also listed at 24 g protein per serving.
I used it from around April 2026. I'm assuming the formula on today's label matches what I had, based on SuperYou's "same" statement, but I haven't compared it against my old tub.
The Good Bug Pro Digestive Protein
From The Good Bug's product page and its label image:
- Name on the page: Pro Digestive Protein, described as a "Bio-Optimised Fermented Protein Isolate".
- Ingredients: fermented yeast protein isolate (49.98%), pea protein isolate (32.07%), cocoa powder, nature identical flavours, pink salt, thickener (INS 415), Pepzyme Pro (protease enzymes and a probiotic blend of Bacillus coagulans, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus clausii, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, 1 billion CFU), sweetener (INS 955) and L-leucine. The label states it contains sucralose.
- Per 38 g serving: 26.52 g protein, 6.16 g carbohydrates, 1.21 g fat, 4.60 g dietary fibre, 2.24 g total sugar, 0 g added sugar, 143 kcal.
- Amino acids per serving: 12.22 g EAAs, 6.00 g BCAAs and 3.00 g leucine. The label footnote says 2.3 g of the leucine occurs naturally from the protein sources and 0.64 g is added L-leucine.
- Servings: 26 per 1 kg pack.
- Flavour: one. The page says "One flavour. Perfected first" and describes it as real cocoa.
One small mismatch: the "How to use" text on the product page says one scoop is about 35 g, while the label image says about 38 g and gives nutrition per 38 g. I've used the label figures above.
The thickener on the label, INS 415, is xanthan gum. That probably explains part of why the shake feels thicker, though I'm only guessing from the label.
Who should try which?
I can only tell you what I'd do.
- If taste is the reason you keep skipping your shake, I'd try The Good Bug before SuperYou.
- If you find very sweet shakes hard to drink, The Good Bug may bother you a little. It bothers me slightly.
- If you're happy on a whey protein and can afford it, I wouldn't switch just because yeast protein is marketed as equal to whey. That's my opinion from my own logs.
- If you do try The Good Bug, see how you feel when you take it in the evening. I get bloated the next morning, but your stomach may react differently.

For me, The Good Bug. It tasted much better, mixed very well, and I've seen better muscle gain and energy on it. On SuperYou, my Hevy logs showed slower progress, I found the taste hard to get through and I felt heavier after it. This is one person's experience.
Is The Good Bug protein made from yeast or rice?
Neither alone. The Good Bug's label lists fermented yeast protein isolate (49.98%) and pea protein isolate (32.07%), plus added L-leucine. There is no rice protein in the ingredient list.
How much protein is in one serving of SuperYou yeast protein?

Is yeast protein as good as whey?
SuperYou says it is. In my experience it wasn't. I felt I got more from whey, and my workout logs agree with how I felt. That's my opinion, not a study finding.

One. The product page lists a single chocolate flavour.
What flavours does SuperYou yeast protein come in?

My final verdict
If I'm choosing between these two, I'm choosing The Good Bug.
I'm still using it (as of 22 October 2026), and it's working fine for me.
I still think a good whey isolate gives more of an edge. But I won't go back to whey until the prices make sense. Until then, The Good Bug is the protein I'm sticking with.
